After our company sponsored winter sports event in Toggenburg, I took the opportunity to activate the highest (and easiest accessible) summit of the Churfirsten group: Hinterrugg. The summit next to Hinterrugg (Chäserrugg, not SOTA) is easily accessible from Unterwasser by a funicular to the intermediary station Iltios, followed by an aerial cableway up to Chäserrugg (2262m). On the way up, the fog layer was crossed and an amazingly beautiful WX and view presented itself. From Chäserrugg, it only took about 15min to the final summit using snow shoes. On the way up, a narrow ridge had to be passed.

HB/AR-008 Hochalp – 1530m, 4 points

First tour with my brand new snow shoes. Planned first to take the longer but more scenic route from Barenegg (northwest of Hochalp), however the road to Barenegg was closed. Reverted to more direct route from north. WX: high fog at the beginning, turning into real fog from abt. 100m below the summit. Visibility was down to 20-30m.

Activation together with Paul HB9DST after the general assembly of the Helvetia Telegraphy Club. Quite a bit of snow, but manageable without snow shoes. Unexpectedly great WX, could operate in the sun without gloves despite temperature probably below 0C. Was impressed by Paul’s EndFedZ antenna he simply hung up some tree branches. No mast required, very light, and setup quickly.

First activation using (borrowed) snow shoes. Beautiful WX, really enjoyable. Quite strong (and freezing) wind on the summit though. Second time using the KX3 in the new “GoBox”. Very convenient.

My first summit counting 6 points. Nice and warm autumn day, had a nice chat with a mountain farmer preparing his home for the winter season.
